Tomfo Yamba Scandi

Life’s important lessons can be learnt with a fishing rod

Where-the-crabs-live-cushion-Tomfo

What does this new design in my Yamba Scandi Collection have to do with a fishing rod and life’s lessons?

You may well ask…

I never knew this before.

But now I do.

That humble rod,

has many lessons to teach you.

Maybe, it’s the journey you take to get to that secret spot,

across the sand,

and the homes you see along the way,

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life-Tomfo

Or the patience to wait for the perfect catch (especially if you are only 6)

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life2-Tomfo

The man you say hello to (that you don’t know, catching fish)

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life10-Tomfo

Or the dolphins that you see (also fishing)

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life11-Tomfo

The friends you fish with, and the stories you tell while doing so,

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life8-Tomfo

The view through a tree, as you eat a homemade pie before fishing,

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life9-Tomfo

Or the trip across the mangroves to find the big ones,

Fishing-yamba-lessons-in-life6-Tomfo

The neighbours who drop by, (to see what you’ve got)

Or the smoke from burning sugar cane in the distance, (even when you’re not fishing)

These are the things a fishing rod helps you see.

The sun peeking through clouds,

The end of a perfect day,

The begining of a new one.

I never knew it till now…

I love that we’ve moved to Yamba,

a place where you see cars on the side of the road,

at random spots,

with people just stopping,

to drop in a line.

They’ve found it,

the…

Patience and appreciation.

Everyone does it, it seems.

Now we do too.

This one’s inspired by Uncle Rob.

Part of my new Yamba Scandi Collection called “Where the crabs live”

Where-the-crabs-live-cushion-Yamba-Scandi-Collection-Tomfo

I never knew he appreciated the patience and serenity, I thought he was all for laughs and golf and cheeky beers.

(He was smarter than I thought, obviously, takes after me, lol!)

My new pillow, “Where the crabs live”, will take a spot in our new home,

to remind us that life’s important lessons can be learnt with a fishing rod.

What do you think a fishing rod can teach you?

I thinks it’s appreciation.

Have a great weekend guys,

PS: House news…

The formwork is done and our slab is due to be poured on Friday.

Dream-home-Tomfo

Can you just imagine me?

Stalking the block to check it out daily, (don’t laugh, it’s now part of my routine!) at least I should be thinner by the time it’s built!

PPS: I’m off on a girls weekend, hence my early post, (after a beautiful double cuddle and a million trillion hugs from my boys), can you feel my serenity and appreciation?

I can. Cheers Uncle Rob. x

Sounds like Yamba fits you guys like a glove. So happy for you all xx

  2. Yamba is a fabulous spot for fishing – so much water it feels like you can virtually stop anywhere by the side of the road and catch something! We used to catch great mud crabs further up the river, they were so enormous and yummy! Your day fishing is exactly as it is – checking out others catch, watching the boats drift by and soaking up the sunshine. Love the inspiration and cushion too! just divine x

Thanks Ashlea, it’s such a lovely place to be, fishing makes you stop and appreciate what’s around you. I’m loving being inspired by the places and people in my life. x

This is a beautiful post Sarah! Thank you for sharing ‘the everything’ you see in your pictures and words… and you can see so much that others wouldn’t. So talented to create a print inspired by where the mud crabs live. Enjoy your weekend. 🙂 Xx

  4. What a beautiful tribute to your uncle and what a beautiful spot you get to call home! It’s making me very Yamba-sick! So happy for you about the house. I love it when a plan comes together! Enjoy your weekend with the girls. Party your pants off!

    • Sarah says:

Thanks Sammy we had a ball, I’ve all have come back re-charged and with even more appreciation for all the fabulous people we have in our lives and hearts. x

  5. Deborah says:

Stunning photographs, all of them. And so tranquil. I definitely agree we can learn a lot when we slow down!

  6. Kathy says:

I love this post and I love Yamba, such a special place. I need to appreciate the gentle art of observation while holding a fishing rod. I get caught up in the things I could be doing (like relaxing and reading a book) rather than noticing the things I could be seeing. The fact that fish seem few and far between shouldn’t really matter.

    • Sarah says:

I just love your reply Kathy, that’s what I was trying to say, you just said it in another beautiful way… the gentle art of observation. x

  7. Tonia Zemek says:

Sarah, I love this post and your images are so tranquil. Really beautiful. Growing up, I spent a great deal of time on boats and throwing a line in. This post makes me want to return to those days. Have fun on your weekend away. (stopping by with #FYBF)

Thanks Sandra, I’m loving creating things that are inspired by the people and the places we live in to become part of our home. x

  9. Looks like Yamba is nourishing your soul right to the core!

    • Sarah says:

I think so too, it’s such a great place to be and appreciate all the wonderful things, it makes you slow down and that’s the key like Deb said.

  10. Grace says:

Oh, Sarah! Love following your paths for inspiration! Yamba seems to really suit you and your creative juices! Love the photos but love the pillow just as much! x

  11. It’s all coming together, Sarah!!
