The pelican a new piece in the Yamba Scandi Collection

Yamba-Scandi-collection-the-pelican-TomfoIntroducing a new piece in the Yamba Scandi Collection.

The Pelican.

Apart from the fact, they happen to wear two of my favourite colours.

And…

I see so many of them here in Yamba.

We can learn a lot from pelicans.

They put themselves in the right position to hunt for food.

You might say, they are opportunistic when it comes to achieving their goals.

They work in groups.

A lot.

Like a co-op, helping each other survive.

They love their kids.

{Just like we do}

It has been documented that the mothers pierce their breast causing blood to flow, to feed their chicks in times of need.

They can fly,

high and low.

Skimming the surface and reaching heights of 3000 metres.

Using thermals to glide through the air.

Pretty magic stuff for such a large bird.

Just like the highs and lows in life.

They are ancient.

Fossil evidence dates back over 30 millions years.

Which symbolises wisdom to me.

And,

Importantly,

A group of pelicans are sometimes called a scoop.*

(some might also say that’s it’s the latest dance move that I’ve introduced,
but I guess you had to be there!)

We met the pelican in our first week in Yamba, at the local co-op.

Co-op-pelicans-yamba-Tomfo

We fish with them.

And watch them fly.

We see them here.

Wharf-pelicans-yamba-Tomfo

We see them there.

Maclean-pelicans-yamba-Tomfo

Obviously, they’ve captured my attention.

Last week,

my sister and her family came to town.

she’s a fabulous food stylist/food editor, so this design is an ode to their visit.

And,

my scoops*.

(near and far)

That’s YOU too, taking the time to read my story.

Thank you.

Maclean-pelicans-deconstruction-yamba-Tomfo

I deconstructed their shapes,

like a chef might deconstruct a sticky date pudding.

To make The Pelican print.

The latest piece in the Yamba Scandi Collection.

The-pelican-Yamba-Scandi-Collection-Tomfo

I’ve ordered the pelican clock for our new home.

To remind me it’s so important to be in a scoop*

Perhaps the recipe for achieving your dreams…

As symbolised by the pelican’s of Yamba

might read something like this…

The Pelican

1/2 cup of Teamwork

2 cups of Wisdom

1/2 cup of Charity

2 cups of Self – Sacrifice

1 cup of Generosity

1 tblsp of Friendship

1 tsp of Direction

A pinch of Focus

A splash of Magic

A scoop* of high and low flying

and a dash of crazy {scoop} dancing

Mix them altogether and blend to achieve your dreams and goals.

There will be highs and lows, but if you are with friends and family who help and support you and sometimes do the scoop with you, then the flight will be magic!

If you are chasing dreams and starting new beginnings,

I wish you all the pelican wisdom, I can muster. x

If not…

Then look to the Pelican

for the inspiration

to achieve your wildest dreams.

Have a great weekend guys,

Live with Love,

SARAH-PRESTON

Yesterday, I took a walk through and I’m so excited.

It’s like we’ve been preparing for my biggest art show yet.

I can’t wait to put all these pieces and the stories behind them inside this house and make it our home to show you all. x

Thanks Bon, I love that I know you are along for the ride.
When I write these stories, I always think of who is reading them and love to make them think of a great memory.
You’ve always been one of my biggest supporters way back when I had my first art show, thanks “Scoop” x

  2. Pelicans tie with kookaburras as my favourite birds! I’ve been at the beach this morning with our dogs, and we always hang out with the pelis for a while.

  4. Chris says:

Just love this one we too have great memories watching the Pelicans on the Central Coast on our many family holidays at hubbys parents place. And then the Kookaburras would come at dusk sit on the clothesline waiting for their treat! The kids loved it. Very exciting with moving into your new home so close. It’s looking great. Have a great weekend lots of love xoxo

    • Sarah says:

I remember those Central coast Pelicans too. And the kookaburra with bits of meat on the clothesline all such cool memories.
Yay we are so excited about the move, it even counteracts the packing process.
Happy weekend to you lovely lady xx

You might have to unspam my comment via The Plumbette. Just love this new design Sarah and learned something new about the Pelican. 🙂

    • Sarah says:

Hi Bec, all done, I learnt a lot about the pelican while designing and writing this too.
Apparently the chicks can communicate while still in the egg if they are too hot or too cold. Nature is such a clever thing.
      And so inspiring.

      Have a great weekend x

  6. I love this! I didn’t know any of those things about pelicans, such beautiful birds. And your home is looking sensational! Thank you for linking up with #HIT, it’ so wonderful to have you along. xx

I just love that you said that.
      Me too…
      now even more,
just the other day someone was talking to me and I said,
      look at that…
      It was 3 pelicans,
      flying high.
      I stopped,
mid conversation and took a snap.
      Some looked,
      some glanced,
      I’m so glad I did. x
